The ECU will start a regen cycle IF the vehicle meets the min speed required of 30 mph. At that time the ECU will spray fuel into the exhaust and that will cause the temperature in the DPF to rise high enough to burn off the Soot. If your speed keeps dropping below 30 mph the regen cycle will fail.
So I tried to force a regen while driving, keepings revs high, but too many idiots on the road. Got home, and plugged in the Vida, and behold Partical soot almost 40g full. I have read that at 45g they need to replace the DPF. So I forced the regen with Vida, and felt so sorry for my car, as it ran at a constant 3000 rpm, for 1hour and 7
With the newer CR-TDI engines there are 2 different types of regenerations available depending on the actual soot mass/load. If either the calculated or measured soot mass is above 30g but below 40g you can initiate a regeneration while standing (Idle will be raised etc.), a forced regeneration while driving is also possible.

So that’s probably why regeneration is only supported at low loads, like when you’re cruising on the highway. So, Grant is just a bit off with the fairies on how this works this. Your engine doesn’t need to work hard to regenerate the DPF. In fact, you want it to be operating in a high gear, at low load, at highway speeds. That’s perfect.
2635 posts · Joined 2017. #30 · Nov 4, 2018. Last night on the way home my truck hit 100% on the BlueDriver and started a regen, 5-10 minutes later I shut it down because I didn’t feel like waiting. This morning when I fired her up, she went right back to it. 700 degree EGT’s before the coolant needle moved.
2021 F250 6.7 Power Stroke. I noticed that my DPF filter was reading 95%. Opened Forscan and it said that the the filter was only at 37% full. Tried to do a manual static regen but Forscan would not let me because the values were to low. Went to my Ford Diesel mechanic and he was able to force a regen with the Ford software.
Know this is an old thread.. but you can force a regeneration. Been having all sorts of DPF regen issues. If you have the AlfaOBD app and a bluetooth dongle you can connect to the engine and tell the engine to force a regen. Seems to have cleared up the issues for now. 🤞🤞Just FYI if anyone is still rocking a diesel and feel as a forced

Nov 1, 2011. #2. in order to do a regen at idle, EGR needs to work so does the actuator, right air ratio and increased flow and yada yada yada, so if you're "tricking" the ECU that everythings fine, the DPF won't be fully regen. As for the coding not sure, never forced one.
Find a safe and open area where you can drive your vehicle at a constant speed without interruption. Accelerate the vehicle to a speed of around 50-60 miles per hour (80-95 kilometers per hour). Maintain this speed for at least 20 minutes to allow the dpf to reach the necessary temperature for regeneration.
The DPF was around 60% when I started off and within 6 miles you could watch the levels start to reduce and at the end was at 5 % and stopped there. It seemed to start during the first few miles, I was at 60 mph in auto around 1500 revs, there was no noticible smoke, increase of revs or smell. The whole process was undetectable and seamless.
If it still won't regenerate you could possibly try the "DPF replacement " adjustment and force a regeneration. Don't forget to reset faults before you try regeneration each time. I guess you read this, but the engine has to be fully wamed up befor you can force a regenereration. If all this fails then you will have to get the DPF cleaned or
To force regeneration, you should first check that your car has a DPF warning light. If the DPF has a warning light but no EML, you must manually regenerate it. This procedure may differ from vehicle to vehicle. The engine rpm will need to increase in order to generate the proper regeneration temperatures.
